I therefore need not to have persistent connections on. I would also like to be able to control the number of connections simulated at any one time. I have been using: httperf --server cypher --port 8080 --uri /jontest.html --num-conns 50000 rate 1200 --hog and though this seems close, it does not really do it. I would also like to be able to control the speed of each or all clients so I could simulate a dsl,14.4,28.8,t1 user. Any help would be very much apreciated. Simulating users does not require persistent connections. However, it does mean that you'll probably want to use one of the session-oriented workload generators. In httperf-speak, a "session" is roughly equivalent to a user. See the description of options --wsess and/or --wsesslog in the manpage for more details. With the workload generators currently implemented in httperf, there are no provisions to directly limit the bandwidth of each user. However, you should be able to get close by using suitable parameters for --wsess or using a suitable session file for --wsesslog. --david -- To unsubscribe: echo unsubscribe httperf | mail majordomo@linux.hpl.hp.com From httperf-owner@napali.hpl.hp.com Tue Dec 5 19:23:14 2000 Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by napali.hpl.hp.com (8.9.3/8.9.3) id TAA25044 for httperf-outgoing; Tue, 5 Dec 2000 19:23:14 -0800 X-Authentication-Warning: napali.hpl.hp.com: majordomo set sender to owner-httperf@napali.hpl.hp.com using -f From: Paonia Ezrine Message-Id: <200012060318.WAA08883@home.welcomehome.org> Subject: Re: [httperf] how do I simulate real users In-Reply-To: <14893.43475.386693.8657@napali.hpl.hp.com> from David Mosberger at "Dec 5, 2000 06:52:03 pm" To: httperf@napali.hpl.hp.com Date: Tue, 5 Dec 2000 22:18:17 -0500 (EST) X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL66 (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-httperf@napali.hpl.hp.com Precedence: bulk Reply-To: httperf@napali.hpl.hp.com > >>>>> On Tue, 5 Dec 2000 19:50:44 -0500 (EST), Paonia Ezrine said: > > Paonia> I want to simulate 100 concurrent users. I actualy do not want persistent connection I will look at this stuff again and see if I can figure it out this time. tanks Paonia -- To unsubscribe: echo unsubscribe httperf | mail majordomo@linux.hpl.hp.com From httperf-owner@napali.hpl.hp.com Wed Dec 6 15:39:09 2000 Received: (from majordomo@localhost) by napali.hpl.hp.com (8.9.3/8.9.3) id PAA10207 for httperf-outgoing; Wed, 6 Dec 2000 15:39:09 -0800 X-Authentication-Warning: napali.hpl.hp.com: majordomo set sender to owner-httperf@napali.hpl.hp.com using -f X-Originating-IP: [202.141.70.76] From: "Rohit Gulati" To: httperf@napali.hpl.hp.com Subject: [httperf] how to measure perf para Date: Wed, 06 Dec 2000 23:37:54 -0000 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed Message-ID: X-OriginalArrivalTime: 06 Dec 2000 23:37:54.0313 (UTC) FILETIME=[8E1E3790:01C05FDD] Sender: owner-httperf@napali.hpl.hp.com Precedence: bulk Reply-To: httperf@napali.hpl.hp.com I am using the httperf tool for measuring the performance of my web server. Here is what I used: httperf --server switch --port 80 --uri /jontest.html --wsess=500,100,0 --burst-len 100 --hog I was not sure if this was doing persistent connections. I need to not be doing persistent connections. What I want to do here is simulate a large number of seperate users each doing one hit and going away. I would like to be able to control the max number of users who are trying to connect, but if I can't that is fine. I think the above might be close but it looks like it is only doing 4 users getting one url each. Because of --max-connections being fixed at 4. Any help would be very much apreciated.
